How can tachograph analysis software help minimise company infringements?
Most fleet managers stay compliant by downloading tachograph data every 28 and 90 days. But what often gets overlooked is that this data can be used proactively. Just by analysing driving patterns and coaching drivers, companies can minimise the risk of tachograph related fines and save money. Tachogram is a tool that makes it all easier.
Reaching up to 40% savings in a year on tachograph fines
What is the effect of coaching drivers based on the tachograph infringement analysis? To get insights, we looked at a dataset with some of our clients that started using Tachogram 1-2 years ago and purposefully have used it to reduce infringements.
We converted the infringements to monetary values (fine per hour driven) based on the lower range of fines that can be received. Then, we normalised the values so that 1.0 represents the potential fine per hour for the average driver without Tachogram during the first quarter (Q1) with the company, that way allowing us to analyse trends and compare driver performance with and without Tachogram.
The results graph shows the comparison between:
Drivers with Tachogram – based on new and experienced driver data from a period when the company started using Tachogram.
Drivers without Tachogram – based on new and experienced driver data from a period when the company was not yet using Tachogram.

The positive impact of Tachogram is evident already in (Q1) – for Tachogram users, the average potential fine per hour is ~21% lower than for drivers without Tachogram. As both types of drivers get more experience, the average potential fine decreases.
However, the driver with Tachogram has a more significant decrease in average potential fine per hour. By the end of the first year of using the platform, the companies see up to 40% lower potential fines than the companies without Tachogram.
On top of that, drivers with Tachogram continue improving for longer. By Q6, their potential fines are almost 60% lower than the average driver without Tachogram.
How did Tachogram help with infringement analysis?
Tachogram significantly simplifies the fleet manager’s job when it comes to infringements. For example, you can always see the most recent information on the platform’s dashboard – the last two weeks of driver infringements are displayed on a timeline at the bottom.
The platform also summarises all driver violations by calculating risk scores for a more intuitive overview. There, you can see a ranking starting with the drivers that have committed the most serious infringements and ending with the ones who have committed the least.

But this is not all! In the dashboard’s driver risk score section, once clicked on one of the drivers → Infringements, additional, more detailed information about them shows up
Precise date of the infringement
Severity of the infringement (from minor to very serious)
The type of the infringement written in a short and simple way
Description of the infringement to give more context about the violation
All this information provides an overview of each driver’s performance and can also be filtered by date & infringement severity to focus on the relevant information.

Finally, the platform offers various reports customisable by dates & drivers, including a driver risk report that is a big help in infringement management. Once this report has been generated, new functionalities become available, namely, information about minimum and maximum fines according to selected legislation and the option for the manager to send a comment to the driver about individual infringements, that way coaching them or requesting additional information about the violation and the context.

All of the functionalities described above can serve fleet managers in coaching drivers and minimising the risk of infringements recurring regularly. In the end, the impact of Tachogram infringement analysis is clear – companies that use the platform save money on tachograph fines.
Proactive infringement management pays off
Tachograph compliance doesn’t end with data downloads – it begins there. With the right tools, fleet managers can move from a reactive stance to a proactive strategy, using real-time insights and intuitive reports to coach drivers, reduce infringements, and lower operational costs.
For any business looking to turn compliance data into a cost-saving advantage, Tachogram is the clear next step. Ready to start? Sign up for a free trial by filling the form.
